NSYA Policy Paper – Class Associations as NSYA Members
Approved by the NSYA Board of Directors, April 9, 2002

A Model for NSYA Recognized Classes
The NSYA offers ‘NSYA Recognized Class’ status to one-design classes, level rating classes, and handicap classes for an annual fee of $35.00, regardless of the number of members in the class association.

NSYA Recognized Class status does not confer status as a CYA member cub, and so does not confer status as an organizing authority for races to be sailed under the Racing Rules of Sailing.

NSYA recognized Class status provides the following services:

· Opportunity for direct representation and input to NSYA Board of Directors meetings
· Representation by NSYA of class issues to third parties, such as government agencies
· Hosted web-space on NSYA web site, offering promotional opportunity and class contact information, subject to NSYA editorial approval.  Web content of regional classes can include class rules.
· Assistance in organizing class clinics or other developmental seminars, through contacts with subject matter experts
· Assistance in obtaining officiating or measurement support for events

The Nova Scotia ASPN/PHRF fleet is the founding NSYA Recognized Class, represented to the NSYA Board of Directors by the NSYA Chief Handicapper, and with annual fees waived.  Ordinarily, fleets are represented by their President, or some other designated official.
