Instructor Clinic Policies

Approved by the NSYA Board of Directors, March 8, 2005

Payment Date
All Candidates must pay at least four weeks prior to the start date of the clinic to guarantee a space in the Clinic.

Requirements
All Candidates must have prior to the clinic starting:
· Required sailing skills and levels
· Pleasure Craft Operator Card

Within 13 months, the following must be attained to become certified:
· First Aid Course
· RLSS Boat Rescue Course or Bronze Medallion
· National Coaching Certification Program appropriate course

Note: Candidates will not be able to challenge their levels at the Clinic or during the Tune Up Clinic.

Attendance
Candidates must attend all of the Clinic. Candidates unable to attend part of the Clinic must discuss their situation with the Senior Instructor Evaluator prior to the start of the Clinic in order to receive permission. Failure to attend all of the Clinic may lead to a failing mark.

Cancellation Fees
If a Candidate wishes to cancel, they will be charged the following
· More than 4 weeks before clinic: $50
· 2-4 weeks before clinic: $100 or more
· Less than 2 weeks before clinic: up to full price, subject to review

Professionalism
All Candidates must exhibit a level of professionalism which consists of the following:
· Being on time every day for the clinic
· Maintaining a mature attitude throughout the clinic

Candidates’ level of professionalism should mimic that which would be required in a learn to sail environment.

Responsibilities
All Candidates are responsible to bring the following to the clinic:
· Meals and snacks (days can be quite long)
· Sailing Gear (Any Weather Conditions)
· Pen & Paper

Tune Up Clinics (June Candidates Only)
All Candidates are required to attend the Tune Up clinic prior to the instructor clinic. Blue and Red Candidates are also required to attend 2 days of Spring Series at RNSYS.
Candidates who live further than 200 km from the Clinic site will be required to sail with at least a Red Level instructor prior to the Clinic. Proof must be shown.

Referral Form
Referral forms must be sent in with application forms, and be signed by a club representative.

CYA Policy
The Canadian Yachting Association has its own policy guide which also must be followed at all times throughout the clinic.
