CYA Instructor Clinic Policies

Payment Date

All Candidates must pay at least four weeks prior to the start date of the clinic to guarantee a space in the Clinic.

Requirements

All Candidates must have the following prior to the clinic starting:

  • Required sailing skills and levels
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card
  • CYA Fundamental Course
  • RLSS Boat Rescue Course or Bronze Medallion

Within 13 months, the following must be attained to become certified:

  • First Aid Course

Note: Candidates will not be able to challenge their levels at the Clinic or during the Tune Up Clinic.

Attendance

Candidates must attend all of the Clinic. Candidates unable to attend part of the Clinic must discuss their situation with the Learning Facilitator prior to the start of the Clinic in order to receive permission. Failure to attend all of the Clinic may lead to a failing mark. 

Cancellation Fees

If a Candidate wishes to cancel, they will be charged the following

  • More than 4 weeks before clinic: $50
  • 2-4 weeks before clinic: $100 or more
  • Less than 2 weeks before clinic: up to full price, subject to review

Professionalism

All Candidates must exhibit a level of professionalism which consists of the following:

  • Being on time every day for the clinic
  • Maintaining a mature attitude throughout the clinic                                

Candidates’ level of professionalism should mimic that which would be required in a learn to sail environment.

Responsibilities

All Candidates are responsible to bring the following to the clinic:

  • Meals and snacks (days can be quite long)
  • Sailing Gear (Any Weather Conditions)
  • Pen & Paper                                

Tune Up Clinics (Spring Candidates Only)

All Candidates are required to attend the Tune Up clinic prior to the instructor clinic.

CYA Policy

The Canadian Yachting Association has its own policy guide which also must be followed at all times throughout the clinic.
