            <title>Boats with a Toilet Now Require Holding Tank</title>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><img class="img_align_left" alt="boat head" src="http://www.nsya.ns.ca/images/boat_head.jpg" width="240" height="320" />On May 3, 2012, a new law came into effect regarding the <a href="http://laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2012-69/page-27.html#h-35">Regulations for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships and for Dangerous Chemicals</a>. <br /><br />It requires that all boats fitted with a toilet be equipped with either a holding tank or a marine sanitation device. It also outlines that portable toilets are permitted if well secured.</p>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><img style="float: left;" class="img_align_left" alt="Tingley CPC ad copy" src="http://www.nsya.ns.ca/images/Tingley%20CPC%20ad%20copy.jpg" width="300" height="300" />Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron 2.4mR sailor Paul Tingley is featured in the recently released Canadian Paralympic Committee Super Athletes campaign. <br />Paul is in the final stages of preparation for the London 2012 Paralympic Games which will be his fourth consecutive Games. <br />In 2008 Paul captured the gold at the 2008 Paralympic Games.             <title>2013 Canada Games Sailing Manager Wanted</title>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><img class="img_align_left" alt="TeamNovaScotia Colour" src="http://www.nsya.ns.ca/images/TeamNovaScotia_Colour.png" width="300" height="61" />The Nova Scotia Yachting Association is seeking applications for the position of 2013 Canada Games Sailing Team Manager.<br /><br />The 2013 Games will be held in Sherbrooke, Quebec the first week of August 2013.</p>
<p>This is a volunteer position with responsibilities from June 1, 2012 through September 2013.</p>
<p>Canada Games requires that if female athletes are on the team that one of the Coach or Manager must be female. Craig Guthrie will coach the team so therefore the Manager must be female.</p>

            <title>Cape Breton Sailing Summit A Great Success</title>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><img style="float: left;" class="img_align_left" alt="CB Summit edited-1" src="http://www.nsya.ns.ca/images/CB%20Summit_edited-1.jpg" width="300" height="151" />26 sailing enthusiasts from all but one yacht club in Cape Breton came together in Baddeck on Saturday, April 14 for the first ever Cape Breton Sailing Summit. Presentations by NS Health & Wellness, Economic Development and Sport Nova Scotia began the day. Those were followed by the participants putting together a SWOT Analysis of Sailing in Cape Breton followed by listing initiatives and priorities.<br />All agreed it was a very useful and productive day with many relationships established and communication channels opened.<br />A Summit report will be developed in the next few weeks followed by a list of actions arising from the meeting.<br />Many thanks to all who attended and for the Bras d'Or Yacht Club for hosting.</p>]]></description>

<p>The support team consists of: Team Leader, <strong>Brian Todd</strong>, <strong>Chris Hewson</strong> and <strong>Sam Crothers</strong>.<br />The team was selected in accordance with the 2011 selection criteria set out by the CYA last year.<br /><br />The ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship 2012, will be held from 12-21 July in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland. It marks the 42nd edition of the championship. The venue for the championship will be the Royal St George, National and Royal Irish yacht clubs on Dublin Bay with racing in eight events.</p>

            <description><![CDATA[<img style="float: left;" class="img_align_left" alt="420_2012_copy" src="http://www.nsya.ns.ca/images/stories/420_2012_copy.jpg" width="300" height="151" />Congratulations to Max Flinn and Andrew Burns from the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron who finished in 5th place at the 420 Mid-Winter Regatta which concluded in Jensen Beach, Florida on Monday. By virtue of their excellent result and their first place finish at the Canadian Youth Championships in 2011, the duo has now qualified to represent Canada at the 2012 ISAF Youth World Sailing Championships in Sligo, Ireland this summer.<br />Other RNSYS sailors at the 420 Mid-Winters were Allie Surrette and Ali Tenhove who finished 55th and Jake Megaffin and Taylor Shaw who finished in 83rd position.<br />The teams were coached at the event by Agustin Ferrario.<br />Full regatta results can be found here.

Sarah Case from the Canadian Yachting Association spoke about the program as well specifically how it was developed with the Long Term Sailor Development model in mind. She also provided details on the new Community Coach program.]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><img style="float: left;" class="img_align_left" alt="23-Sailing_Class" src="http://www.nsya.ns.ca/images/stories/23-Sailing_Class.jpg" width="300" height="225" />The NSYA has set the dates and the location of the CYA Instructor Clinics we will offer in spring 2012 which include Learn to Sail Instructor levels and Learn to Race Instructor level.. <br /><br />To become a fully certified CYA instructor you must complete all 3 components; Theory, Technical and Practical.<br /><br />The NSYA will only offer the Theory Course once this spring and that will be over the Easter weekend in early April.</p>

            <title>Will Apold and SMSC Recognized at CYA Awards</title>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><img class="img_align_left" alt="IMG_2307_copy" src="http://www.nsya.ns.ca/images/stories/IMG_2307_copy.jpg" width="227" height="170" />The Rolex CYA Awards were held in Toronto on Saturday, February 4 and two Nova Scotians were recognized.<br /><br />Will Apold, a member of both the Bedford Basin Yacht Club and Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, was named the 2012 Gerry Roufs Offshore Sailor of the Year for winning the Marblehead to Halifax yacht race in July. He was the first Canadian to win the race in the modern era.</p>
<p>St. Margaret Sailing Club was awarded the Chisholm Trophy for Excellence in Race Management for their efforts hosting the 2011 CYA National Sailing Championships. Attending the event on behalf of SMSC was Dave Lane.</p>]]></description>

In the photo she is celebrating with a bottle of champagne and Erin Rafuse.<br /><br />This news was featured on the front page of the Chronicle Herald.
