Regatta week isn't just about racing in Baddeck. It's also the favourite time of year for Cape Bretoners to travel home to celebrate with friends and family knowing everyone will be in town. Hope to see you this year in Baddeck.
Halifax BMW J29 North American Championship Hosted by the Lunenburg Yacht Club February 27, 2012 The J29 North American Championships are coming to Nova Scotia! Following the success of the 2011 J24 North American Championships hosted by the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, the J29 Class has selected the Lunenburg Yacht Club to be the host venue for their 2012 North American Championships. Long recognized as the premier one design class in Atlantic Canada, the Atlantic J29 fleet will now have the opportunity to compete against their American colleagues for North American supremacy. The event is scheduled for August 10th – 12th and organization is already well underway. With title sponsor Halifax BMW already onboard, Principal Race Officer Andreas Josenhans and a committee of dedicated volunteers are hard at work to ensure an event with top quality race management, organization and camaraderie. More information on the event can be obtained from the regatta website (http://j29northamerican2012.com), the Atlantic J/Class Website (http://atlanticj.wordpress.com), or the Lunenburg Yacht Club Website (www.lyc.ns.ca).
July 11-17 & August 12-18 Ages 14-18 $875 Learn to handle wind, waves and weather with confidence as you choose your own adventure with your team of crew mates. No sailing experience is necessary - we'll teach you what you need to know. If you do have a background in sailing, we'll build on those basics with a great experience of small boat coastal sailing where you'll learn chart and compass navigation, anchoring, how to read the weather, how to cook on board and more! You will live on board Elizabeth Hall, a 30' traditional wooden sailboat; she is sturdy and very seaworthy. She is ketch rigged - 3 sails (jib, main, mizzen). There is no motor, so when there's no wind we have 8 large oars to row! We leave from our boathouse in historic Lunenburg on the south shore and return to Lunenburg, so the general sailing area is in Mahone Bay and St. Margaret's Bay. We sail during the day and anchor at night and sleep on board. Each trip is different, each crew is different - it's your adventure - you decide how you want to live it.
