Race
Officials Course May 7
The Bedford Basin Yacht Club has scheduled CYA Race Management Level
1 & Level 2 courses for May 7 at the Club.
They have also scheduled a VHF Operator's Course, which is now
required by all Level 2 Race Officials. The date for this course
will be set once there has been interest shown by at least 4 people.

Halifax
Harbor Meeting to be Held May 11
All Metro Clubs are invited to send up to three representatives to
the annual Halifax Harbor meeting with government agencies. The
meeting will be held on Wednesday May 11 from 10am - 12 noon at
Shearwater Yacht Club. Lunch to follow. There will be presentations
from the Waterfront Development Corp on their new Berthing Pass, the
RCMP, Port Authority and others. Please RSVP to the NSYA
office by May 6.
LTS
Directors Meeting May 15
The annual spring Learn to Sail Directors Meeting will be held from
1-3pm at Sport Nova Scotia (5516 Spring Garden Road in Halifax) on
Sunday, May 15. This is a great opportunity to meet other LTS
Directors and discuss plans for 2011.

Appleton
Cup Race June 4
The 30+ annual NSYA Appleton Cup Race will be held on Saturday, June
4 and once again will be a highlight of the spring racing season.
Full details will be posted on the NSYA website shortly. The Race is
a fundraiser for both the Nova Scotia Sailing Team and WOW! Women on
Water.
RYA
Yachtmaster Prep Week and Exams in Nova Scotia
In June 2011 Discovery Sailing will be hosting an RYA Yachtmaster
Prep course ending with an RYA Yachtmaster examination. Under a
continuing CYA/RYA collaboration, an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor
Trainer will be coming to Canada, to provide training and
evaluation.

to Offer Club LTS Program Safety Review
The NSYA is launching a new Club LTS Program Safety Review. The goal
is to work collaboratively with the schools to identify improvement
opportunities to enhance the safety of their operations and minimize
the risk of an accident occurring in a club’s LTS program. Details
were sent out to all clubs in March and response has been very
favorable. If you would like more information on the program, please
contact the NSYA.
2011
Provincial Dinghy Championships
The NSYA is launching a new format to determine the best sailors in
the province. Provincial Champions will be determined using a point
system based on results from regattas and culminating with the CYA
Youth Nationals to be held in late August at St. Margaret Sailing
Club.

PHRF Adjustments for 2011
The NSYA Handicapping Committee announces that the following
adjustments are new for NSYA and will be implemented for the
2011 sailing season. Some of these new adjustments are
specifically targeted at non racing boats and must be applied for
individually by a written submission to NSYA. More details here.

The NSYA has jumped on the Social Media bandwagon! In
December we set up a Facebook Fan Page (Nova Scotia Yachting
Association) and a Twitter page (NSYachting).
