| Basic Amateur Radio License Course |
|
The successful completion of the course will give access to the long distance HF ham bands along with the VHF/UHF frequencies and the repeater network across the three Maritime Provinces along with other repeaters across Canada. The course starts on Thursday 22nd of September at 7:00 pm with registration and information in the club classroom of the Halifax Amateur Radio Club station. It is located upstairs in the Saint Andrew Community Centre, Barnstead Lane off Bayers Road outbound, one block west from Romans Avenue intersection. Registration will also be accepted Sat 24th Sept and Thurs 29th Sept. The first full class is Saturday 24th at 10:00 a.m. on basic fundamentals. Classes will normally run for 90 min on each Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm. The fee for the course is $120 unless a person already has the study manual. Otherwise it is $65. Any returning course member will be offered a reduced rate. The fee includes the course manual, thirteen weeks of expert instruction by senior club members, photocopied handouts, examination by one of HARC’s accredited examiners and the application submission to Industry Canada for your station’s callsign. Our course has had a significant number of mariners and sailors over the years who obtained their ham licence. A licence will allow a mariner to stay in touch via HF when they are blue water sailing and outside of VHF range. Winlink is the application of sending and receiving e-mails via HF radio. It will also allow one to personally talk to “Herb” and the mariners’ weather net and to keep in touch with experienced hams who monitor the frequency on a daily basis. Additional information is available via the HARC website and members of the club executive. Course Coordinator 2011 |
