Women on Water Chair Jacquie Gahagan was very grateful and honoured to receive the award. On behalf of the Aylesford Lake Yacht Club team, receiving the WOW! Women on Water award is a great honour! Whether we are hoisting sails in small dinghies or venturing out in blue water, the wide ranging benefits are incredible. How many other sports do we enjoy as much that do not discrimate by gender or age? 2011 was a great year for female sailors at Aylesford Lake! 4 out of 10 Learn to Sail participants were female, partly owning to our Skipper Chicks program! Some program goals were to empower and encourage girls to achieve advanced sailing levels and eventually return in future years to be coaches and leaders. Many thanks to Frank Denis, NSYA Executive Director for all the support, encouragement, and guidance throughout this journey!
WOW! Women on Water was formed in 2007 in memory of Pamela Lerch and is committed to developing the potential of women in Nova Scotia through the sport of sailing, as well as promoting and improving the health of women through effective mentoring and education.
