Sun Safety For Sailing Schools &
Clubs
Tracy Burgess, Sun Safety Project Coordinator (coordinated by Cancer Care NS), is
hoping to assist Sport Organizations and Recreation Departments to develop and implement a Sun Safe Policy and to support their efforts to strengthen Sun Safe practices. For a long time, Recreation Departments and Sport Organizations have cared about sun safety. There is good reason for this. Recent research has shown that the majority of sunburns occur when people are taking part in or watching recreational activities including sporting activities. And sunburns increase the risk of skin cancer. As an organization promoting active living,
Clubs and Sailing Schools share a common goal with the Sun Safe Nova Scotia
coalition… helping to keep people healthy. Active living, sports and sun safety can go hand in hand.
Tracy is happy to connect with any clubs that are interested in advancing sun safe behaviours with their members and moving towards the implementation of a Sun Safety Policy. There are many supports available to make this process very easy – including policy templates, information for brochures/websites, resources for parents and more.
Tracy can be reached at sunsafety@eastlink.ca or 902-792-1955.

This summer the NSYA with the help of Sport Fund hired Luke

are also in the process of uploading it to YouTube.
