Race Management Seminars Offered
To date the NSYA has scheduled two CYA Race Management Seminars for this
spring. Both the Assistant Race Officer and Club Race Officer levels will
be offered. The ARO level is offered in the morning while the CRO level is
offered the same afternoon.
Registration for each course is handled by the NSYA and will be posted
shortly on our website.
Race Management Course #1
Saturday, April 25 at St. Margaret Sailing Club
Race Management Course #2
Saturday, May 23 at Bras d'Or Yacht Club in Baddeck.

Sport Fund deadline
Twice a year NSYA members have the opportunity to apply for funding from the
Sport Nova Scotia Sport Fund. This fund supports coaches, officials, and
sailing programs and is an excellent way to help finance a project or new
initiative.
Full details including application forms can be found on the Sport
Nova Scotia website.
Applications must be received by NSYA no later than Monday, February 23 so
they can be reviewed and endorsed.
If you do plan to apply, please discuss your project with Frank Denis at the
NSYA office to see if it meets Sport Fund criteria.
Commodores Meeting at Boat Show
The NSYA invites all its member clubs, sailing schools, and class
associations to send a representative to attend a Commodores Meeting held in
conjunction with the Halifax Boat Show.
The meeting will be held at Exhibition Park from 1pm - 3pm on Sunday,
February 22. All those who attend the meeting will receive a free pass to
the Boat Show.
The meeting will be an excellent opportunity to hear about NSYA's 2009 plans
as well as share information about your club's plans this year.
Please RSVP to the NSYA office no
later than February 12 so that we can mail you your boat show pass. Passes will
not be available for pick-up at the Show.
CYA Seeking Committee Volunteers
The Canadian Yachting Association is in the process of reorganizing itself
as it moves from a functional to a strategic governance model. Volunteers
are needed for committees reporting to the Board of Directors and for
working committees, councils and work groups who work closely with staff and
report to the Executive Director. Committees include the Coaches Council,
Training & Certification, and Business Development. Full

Chester Sailors Finish 9th at Orange
Bowl
Congratulations to Joss Warren & Jacob Chaplin-Saunders from Chester
Yacht Club for their outstanding performance in the 420 Class at the Orange
Bowl Regatta in Miami over the Christmas holiday. Read

New Rule Books for sale
The NSYA is now selling the new Racing Rules of Sailing
(2009-2012) with CYA prescriptions. Cost is $19.00 and they are
available by contacting the NSYA
office.
Boat Show Volunteers & Club
Materials Wanted
The Halifax Boat Show takes
place from February 19-22 at Exhibition Park. NSYA is looking for volunteers
to help staff the 10 x 10 booth throughout the show.
If you or members of your Club
are interested in helping out, please have them contact NSYA ASAP.
The NSYA is pleased to display any of our members promotional materials at
the Show. Please drop them off to the NSYA in advance or at the Show. Note
that 50 copies of an item is more than sufficient.
