NSYA names Canada Games Sailing
Team
Congratulations to Tommy Brosky
(Laser), Erin Rafuse (Radial), Karen Filbee-Dexter & Dana
Archibald (Female 29er, and Jonathan Reid & Ted Skiffington
(male 29er) for winning the NS Canada Games Sailing Trials and
earning the right to represent Nova Scotia at the 2009 Canada Summer
Games in PEI, August 15-21. Full story here.

NSYA
Mobile Program Launched
NSYA is very excited to announce that we will be launching a Mobile
Sailing Program this summer to introduce the sport to new
participants in Cape Breton. This summer the program will visit the
communities of Dundee, Arichat, Mabou, and St. Peter's. The program
consists of a 20 foot enclosed trailer, coach boat and 4 Optis with
enough PFDs for participants.
If you are interested in more information or would like to suggest a
potential community / organization the program could visit please
contact the NSYA office.
2009 NSYA 420 Circuit
The very popular NSYA 420 Circuit returns for the third year and
will once again include a stop in Cape Breton.
Each Series stop will include at least two days of racing and be
preceded by at least a day of special guest coaching by a 420
expert.
The 2009 NSYA 420 Circuit consists of the following 4 Regattas
ARK - July 11-12, Bedford Basin
SMSC Bay Wind, July 18-19, St. Margaret Sailing Club
Dinghy Regatta, August 1-2, Northern Yacht Club
Kennedy Cup, August 6-7, Royal NS Yacht Squadron

The 2009 Nova Scotia Provincial Dinghy Championships have been
awarded to the following regattas:
Under 16 - ARK Regatta, July 11-12
Under 18 - SMSC Bay Wind Regatta, July 18-19
Lasers - SMSC Bay Wind Regatta
Double-Handed - ARK Regatta

Keelboat Provincials
Congratulations to skippers Becky Schneiderman (Spin Class) and Sara
Ingraham -Christie (Non-Spin Class) for capturing the 2009 Nova
Scotia Women's Keelboat Championships. Full

NSYA Sets 2009
AGM Date
The 2009 NSYA Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday,
November 28 at the Saraguay House in Halifax. The day will include
divisional meetings, the AGM, and the 2009 awards. Details to
follow.
Recreational Infrastructure Canada Program
In the last Federal Budget the government announced plans
to fund Recreational Facilities Upgrades, this should include yacht
clubs.

Sail Able Looking
for Volunteers
Sail Able Nova Scotia is looking for volunteers to help out with
their new learn to sail program that is being offered at the Royal
Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron this summer. If you know the basics of
sailing and would like to accompany a disabled sailor in a Martin 16
out on the water, this is the perfect opportunity for you. Sail Able
members typically book 2-hour sailing sessions, and you could
participate whenever it is most convenient for you. There is no
minimum level of commitment required. For more information please

Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club Founders Day Regatta
SHYC will be hosting a Regatta to commemorate Founders Day on July 17, 18 and 19, 2009. The racing schedule will start at 6PM on the Friday, followed by a 2PM start on the Saturday, with the final race commencing at 3PM on the Sunday.
Other attractions include a Friday Night BBQ, free Haddock Dinner on Saturday and First Mates' Breakfast on Sunday, plus musical entertainment through the weekend. There will also will also be the opportunity to view the Annual Parade of Lights from the Club's upper deck. Visiting racers are welcome to compete and take part in the festivities. Nova Scotia Sailors Welcome the World
Nova Scotia plays host to the World in August and September of this year
with the 2009 Laser World and Masters World Championships. From the 20th of
August to the 5th of September some of the best sailors in the world will
compete on the waters of St. Margaret’s Bay. For more information click
